The minutes that had passed by felt like hours in the midst of the sandstorm, sand getting into places that it shouldn’t be. Crimson colored orbs squinted, unable to see much through the thick wall of whirling sand that claimed the land. Azula, the massive six foot seven hell hound, emitted an unpleasant series of grumbles. She didn’t like this one bit.[break][break]

In the distance, Maverick caught a glimpse of a silhouette. His gaze lingered on the hazy sandy figure, a brow rose when it watched them from afar. The burnt man lifted the incense, letting the scent mix into the wind that whirl around him. The creature in the distance swayed back and forth, appearing to size them up. However, they must of been too much. The figure vanished into the storm, fleeing without risking getting closer. Maverick huffed.

Several minutes had past since the heatmor fled the scene. Maverick could feel the heat starting to force him to sweat. A droplet formed along the side of his face, slowly creeping down. The man grunted, holding the fire type incense higher in the desperate hope that it would increase his odds. He knew it didn’t, but what harm could it do.[break][break]

Azula, the massive six foot seven hell hound, nostrils flared to take in what little scent she could. But thanks to that weird thing her human had, it dulled her senes. The canine emitted her own grumbles, ruby eyes sharp and invisible ears listened carefully. And in that moment, a faint whine could be heard. The houndoom let out a grumble of a growl, lips lifted ever so slightly. This caught Maverick’s attention, crimson eyes fell upon her. “What is it?” Azula let out another growl, more menacing this time. “Lead the way.”[break][break]

A few miles further up the trail, the iconic orange with black strikes and cream colored furred was spotted. It moved from his laid position, though not much. It did however, emit a loud whine filled with pain. It hasn’t scented them yet. Maverick studied it from a far, seeing the small pool of dark red underneath it. “It must be hurt. Let’s go check it out.” Azula let out a snort.[break][break]

Moving in a large circle to approach the canine in front, Maverick kept himself relax. He moved into view, letting his own set be caught by the canine so it wasn’t surprised. In that moment, the nose twitched and it lifted its head to reveal something nasty. All over, the arcanine was a darker shade. His gaze shifted down to the source, seeing its back foot caught in a heavy metal trap. It was torn up, bad. Surprise the thing was still alive.[break][break]

“Easy boy,” the man kept himself low, hands out and motions down to show he meant no harm, “I just want to help.” The wild arcanine’s exhausted gaze fell upon the human, too tired to do much. Azula let out a growl, making the arcanine let out a weak growl back. Maverick shot Azula a dark glare, pointing for her to go over there and stay. She grumbled, but did so. His attention was back on the arcanine, it watching him carefully.[break][break]

Arcanine were such a beautiful majestic creature. Although pretty common in the grand scheme of things, Maverick was sure their pelt was worth much more. He kept moving closer, slowly and surely. The arcanine gaze would shift from Azula to Maverick. He was no threat to the canine, but his houndoom was. Sooner rather than later, the man was finally able to get a better look. It looked grim. His next move would be a risky one, but one he needed to make if he wanted to save this canine.[break][break]

Maverick slowly reached into his pocket, being sure not to startled the canine. He brought the ball to his mouth, mumbling something against the exterior before he looked to the canine again. It laid its head down, but kept an eye on him. “Please stay calm,” Maverick explained to he canine, “I’ll get you out of here but I need to work with me okay.” The arcanine let out a long exasperated sigh, head turning away from him. “I’ll take that as a yes.”[break][break]

Without a moment to waste, a brilliant light flashed and a pokemon materialized within seconds. The arcanine turned back to the human, lips lifted when a malamar was what he seen. But before it could do much else, creature began its trans. The hypnosis did its work, knocking the creature out cold in a deep sleep. And once it was asleep, there was only one thing he could do to save it. Capture it.[break][break]

Plucking an empty sphere from his pocket, the man tapped the ball on the creatures head. It sucked it in, leaving an empty trap and a dark stain on the ground. Too dark. Recalling his other pokemon and leaving the fire incense behind, Maverick was quick to gather Azula and head to the nearest pokemon center.
